In the USA, they like
the idea of the EY Cup, too! |
Georgina Bloomberg |
During a
break in the hectic schedule, we had a chance to sit
down with Georgina Bloomberg, the US rider who is
currently competing on the European circuit. "I think
the idea behind the EYCup is wonderful," she said. "Not
only do the up and coming riders get a chance to obtain
a starting place in the big shows without needing to
compete straight off against people who have been in the
business at the top end for 20 years or more, but they
also have the opportunity now to get their first world
ranking points. Back home, I am also involved in helping
our new talents make the leap into the big sport and I
think there is quite a lot we can learn from this idea
of what you are doing here in Europe."

Jörg Oppermann wins S** (1,45m) qualification of the EYCup on
sunday |
The 1.45 qualifier
for the European Youngster Cup U25, the finals of which will take
place at Frankfurt, was won today by
Jörg Oppermann (GER) on Che Guevara. Second place went to
Maximilian Schmid (GER) on Cuckoo and third place went to
Swedish rider
Angelica Augustsson with Giovanni. With a second place in the
1.40 qualifier yesterday and then today's 3rd, Augustsson on both
days was the only female to make it into the top three. It was a
great weekend's result for the ambitious Swede who was all smiles
after Sunday's prizegiving.

Wolfgang Puschak
wins 1,40m competition
of the European Youngster Cup in Munich |
The 1.40 (S*) qualifier of the European Youngster Cup U 25 in
Munich-Riem on Saturday was won by
Wolfang Puschak (GER) in the saddle of Uschiel. 2nd place wen to
Swedish rider
Angelica Augustsson on Giovanni, followed by
Maximilian Ziegler (GER) riding Leticia to 3rd place.
The course was characterized by some very tight turns, which cost
those riders valuable seconds who chose to play it safe and take the
longer route. Only the first three risked everything, which was
reflected in their times when they crossed the finish line. Puschak
came in with 51.04 seconds,
Angelica Augustsson with 52.74 and
Maximilian Ziegler with 53.20. The next placed rider,
Daniel Lahmann riding the usually very fast George Clooney,
followed with 46.98 seconds.

Maximilian
Schmid wins EYCupU25 Preliminary Qualifier |
With an extremely fast clear round,
Maximilian Schmid (GER) won the EYU preliminary qualifier (1.35
m) today at the Munich Riem International Horse Show with his mount
Cuckoo when he came in with 56.11 sec overall. The fast bay gelding
showed a high level of rideability as he allowed Schmid to pilot him
through some very tricky turns in the jump-off. The Caretello B son,
incidentally, is the maternal half-brother of Nolte's Küchengirl
and, like his sister, was bred by Schmid's mother Eva. At home, he
reportedly is a darling and really likes a cuddle around the stable!
The second and third placed riders also went clear. They were
Daniel Lahmann (GER) with George Clooney (58.31 Sec), followed
by
Gerrit Schepers (GER) on Rubin Ramazotti (59.52 sec).
